hpux: PA-RISC?? which version?

Hi!

Can someone explain, why binutils configured for
hppa2.0w-hp-hpux11.00 are PA-RISC1.1 executables?

I had the impression hp cc normally creates PA-RISC2.0
executables per default.

This is what happens with petsc:
file /work/markus/PETSC/petsc-2.0.28/lib/libO/hpux/libpetsc.a
/work/markus/PETSC/petsc-2.0.28/lib/libO/hpux/libpetsc.a:
archive file -PA-RISC2.0 relocatable library

so why not here with binutils?

[markus] ...BINUTILS/src > less config.status

[...]
./configure --host=hppa2.0w-hp-hpux11.00
[...]

[markus] ...BINUTILS/src > file /work/markus/opt/egcs-test/bin/as
/work/markus/opt/egcs-test/bin/as: PA-RISC1.1 shared executable
dynamically linked -not stripped
