It occurs to me that a lot of the problems with RPATHs could be
mitigated by the existence of a utility to edit them in place at
install time, without needing to relink the binary from scratch. An
idle web search turns up chrpath[1] and elfhack[2]. Could something
like this be rolled into binutils?
