Just a nit: $enable_shared = yes is not enough.
--enable-shared=foo,bar,bfd,baz would build a shared libbfd too.
Consider `${CONFIG_SHELL} ${LIBTOOL} --features | grep "enable shared"
> /dev/null' instead.
