Apparently, the IRIX 64-bit binaries I'm examining don't follow this,
which led to my initial confusion. The value I'm seeing is 0.
Jim explained in a another message why the value might not be 0xffffffff,
and Kevin's patch takes care of it.
Now I can get some work done on _my_ application...
