I vaguely recalled a fix going in, but I wasn't sure -- that's indeed the
right reference.

That a proof I haven't read your mail carefully enough. I think our
interpretation is consistent with other Linux ports and also wasn't
changed for many years. I wasn't aware it's different from the Irix's
one. Ralf, you have some experience with Irix -- could you comment on it?
