You mean that the automake 1.4-p6 that generated the file isn't the same
automake 1.4-p6 available for download on the ftp site. That's slightly
inconvenient. Any plans to change this?

No, but I would prefer that I didn't get lots of pointless diffs to hide
the real ones.

Is hand editing it OK?

Yep, that was the point of the exercise.
When I come to submit my patches - not too long now - I will want to
patch Makefile.am. This isn't a problem, but it does mean I would also
have to alter Makefile.in which I am finding slightly more problematic.
Should I just do 'make dep-in' or run automake and sumbit a slightly
larger diff than I would like?
P.S. make dep in gas doesn't work at all unless I remove all the gas/..
from the absolute paths in dep.sed. At least I'm not having any trouble
with automake.
Thanks
