Heh. OK. I'll bow to the pressure :) I do wish they'd asked first.
Hmm. The MIPS architecture is owned and defined and by MIPS
Technologies, and although we love the GNU community dearly, we aren't
beholden to it - at least as far as the architecture and instruction set
definitions are concerned. Indeed we have to maintain toolchain
neutrality in light of the fact that we work with a number of compiler
vendors, as well as GNU.
Just FYI, although the detailed specification of the MIPS DSP ASE is not
yet published, there is a short presentation which describes some of its
