so I hadn't read your _gp_disp messages by then.

I think that's probably the right fix though.  I no longer have
access to a working IRIX box, but I'd bet that IRIX libraries don't
define _gp_disp.  It doesn't really make sense to.  By its very nature,
the symbol's value depends on where it's used.
