Linux binary size after strip

Hi,

I'm working in a project to reduce the size of the Linux kernel. We have
modified the linker script to partition the code into several sections.
Now I have stripped some of these sections, but the size of the binary
has not decreased. In theory, it should be ~ 500Kb smaller. Do you know
what can be happening? Do you think that with this method we will obtain
a bootable Linux binary?

Thanks in advance.
