Hi Nix,

For me there are additional test failures with this option (under glibc
2.8, which does appear to have at least *some* support for STT_COMMON in
its dynamic loader):

Right. I see the same thing. It seems that there is also some work needed in the linker to properly support common symbols. Still the good news is that the new linker (gold) supports STT_COMMON and does not have the problems that the plague the current one.
