Thank you very much for the help. I have even gone so far as to look into compiling
my own glibc but of course that will get me no where but the fifth level of hell.

Let me take a look for that :

OKay, so that was already installed.

Not sure how to get the "optional" channel, at the moment I see this :
[root@sedna ~]# rpm -qf /usr/lib64/libc.a
error: file /usr/lib64/libc.a: No such file or directory
So I'll go back to the Red Hat login and hunt around for this "optional" channel thing.
At this particular moment I miuss Debian but want to cling to support Red Hat ;-)
