My "make" according to http://billgatliff.com/twiki/bin/view/Crossgcc/BuildBootstrapGcc failed miserably.

binutils version 2.14
export TARGET=arm-elf
export PREFIX=/usr/local

The configure cmd (from /usr/local/src/build-bootstrap):

$ ../gcc-3.3/configure --target=$TARGET --prefix=$PREFIX --without-headers --with-newlib --with-gnu-as --with-gnu-ld \ --with-local-prefix=${PREFIX}/${TARGET} --disable-shared

Try following http://kegel.com/crosstool instead, it's been updated.

It's more of a script than a writeup, but it's got comments :-)

Er, and then edit it to configure newlib instead of glibc.

crosstools.sh, line 118: "need to install bootstrap glibc headers for gcc3 and above"
Is this why the bootstrap build of gcc-3.3 failed? So I need glibc to bootstrap gcc3+, even if I want to use newlib for the arm-elf cross-compiler?
