I think they're a good idea, just not quite yet for crosstool.

Agreed. But one of the reasons I gave to others at Ixia was - "crosstool doesn't support it yet!" :) I vaguely remember a thread on lkml discussing this. There were some suggestions but I think they were talking about them in context of 2.7, so definitely not in the near future.
