it just doesn't stop :). maybe i do need to install gnu binutils ?

I dunno. Maybe someone else using MacOSX with gcc-3.4.1-glibc-2.3.3 can suggest something. You might also try older toolchain versions, e.g. gcc-3.3.4-glibc-2.3.2. I'm cc'ing the crossgcc mailing list, which is where these questions belong, really. - Dan
