Are you trying to build a cross-compiler targeting sparc-linux?
If so, have you tried using http://kegel.com/crosstool to build it?

Now we're on the topic, can crosstool be used to cross-compile a native toolchain for another platform? This is usually the next step after compiling an ordinary cross toolchain in bringing up new hardware.

Yes. I do it all the time; it's called a Canadian Cross, and there a little doc about how to do it in http://www.kegel.com/crosstool/crosstool-0.28-rc26/doc/crosstool-howto.html#canadian - Dan
