gcc-4.0 needs a tiny little patch for big-endian, just like 3.3.x
and 3.4.x.  (I think that patch is in crosstool now.)  A hardfloat
build of a gcc-4.0 toolchain works fine for me, but I haven't been
able to get softfloat (softvfp) to build properly yet.
