I think your best bet now is probably to make inquiries on the glibc list as to whether it should be possible to build a completely thread-free version and if so how; I don't think we're going to work it out here, it's best to get the lowdown from the folks who really know. Probably libc-ports is the one to try; you're likely to find the SH maintainer there.
