yes, that's not scope of this paper - it just talks about
the source repositories. other things, like QM guidelines,
automatic mass build tests, will come later ...

hmm, seems I'm not the only one having this idea ;-)

Well, the vendor name has to be globally unique by definition,
and is assigned manually. "vendor" here means a party who has 
its own branches, naturally a distro or something similar 
(but not the original authors - they run under "UPSTREAM.*")

Where do a dates appear there ? 
Version numbers are natually very different from dates, and
using dates as versions is generally not a good idea.
