I have a black background, and mostly white text.  Part of the prompt is 
colored -- I've tried a variety of colors, but none seem to show up as 
anything other than black, even in 8-bit color.

I've not tried different fg and bg colors -- mostly because the colors are 
weird in deeper screens.
