There is a bug report on the messed up Emacs colors when running in KDE.
To fix the colors, launch kcontrol (the Control Center), goto
LookNFeel->Sytle, and uncheck the box that says "Apply fonts and colors to
non-KDE apps".
Emacs will then have the correct colors when running under KDE.

KDE causes me the same problem with emacs. The color under the letters
I type is white, while the rest of the background remains khaki. I
guess it's a KDE thing...
