Re: rootless & multiwindow mode & Windows 2000sp1

Kevin,

No, running them in conjunction will never be an option. The dummy root window is there because multiwindow is not yet finished. When it is finished, it will be removed. There will never be a reason, nor will it be supported, to run with -rootless and -multiwindow.

-emulate3buttons can go anywhere... you just mispelled it (not misplaced it).

Thank you,
   I appreicate the help/info, I don't know if there
are already plans to implement this solution but
running them in congunction whould be an option, to
get rid of the dummy root window, maybe placing an
icon in the icon tray?? that way, someone who wants
the dummy root window still has it there, and/or
someone who doesn't want it can get rid of it but
still be able to control the X session

PS were should the emulate3buttons go if not on the
end?

Barrow,

First of all, you do NOT want to use "run.exe" with
"XWin.exe". run.exe is not only not needed, but it in fact is known to
cause problems with XWin.exe.

-rootless and -multiwindow are mutually exclusive
--- you use one or the other, but never both.

-emulate3buttons is misspelled.

You should be running without -rootless and yes,
there should be a dummy root window.

I've been searching the Mailing list for Xfree and
I've not found any reference to my problem, it

still

seems like a newbie question however,

I'm running Windows 2000 SP1 I have only found
sniplets of information on the operation of

rootless &

multi window operation,

I'm running Xwin.exe directly from the start menu

for

debuging purposes, I intend to put it in run
eventualy.

I run with the command line:
C:\cygwin\usr\X11R6\bin\run.exe
C:\cygwin\usr\X11R6\bin\XWin.exe -rootless
-multiwindow -nowinkill -unixkill -clipboard
-emualte3buttons 50

When I do this X apps are not managed by windows,
however, I took the rootless out, and it works

fine,

however there is a dummy rootwindow. when the root
window is then opened the X apps are unmanaged..

is

this a bug or a feature?
