PS - I also tried adding the -lSM and -lICE link
options, and tried all suggested combinations of
ordering them, but same run-time failure results.
Example:
$ gcc -I/usr/X11R6/include -L/usr/X11R6/lib memo_1.c
\
-lXm -lXt -lX11 -lSM -lICE -o memo_1
