The only X11 application I run is xemacs-21.4.8, shipped with Red Hat
Linux 8.0. However I just tried pasting some text from gedit into
Windows and that hanged too.

Great, that will make XWin -clipboard a lot safer to use... even if it
doesn't work yet ;-).
