X startup hangs


When i try to start X with command:
$ startx

it hangs after a few lines of output:

Welcome to the XWin X Server
Vendor: The Cygwin/X Project
Release: 6.7.0.0-10

XWin was started with the following command line:

X :0 -multiwindow -clipboard

at this point output stops, and no window appear.
with 'ps' I can see that Xwin.exe and xinit.exe are both running (in winXp
task manager too)

trying with startxwin.bat, I get the same output and again no window.
