Maybe Xine uses a special font for cursors which is only available on the 
linux host. The XCreateGlypthCursor man page indicates this.

 showfont -start $((0x99)) -fn cursor

is a valid character

 showfont -start $((0x9a)) -fn cursor

has no character assigned.
