RE: backslash and backslash backslash


Umm.  I don't think piping into read works
either.  (At least it doesn't for me.)  I think
it is because you set the variable in a subshell
but not in the parent shell where you need it.

Use
  mypath=$(cygpath -was $1)
or
  mypath=`cygpath -was $1`
instead.
