John,

Cygwin is not a world apart. You can invoke Windows tracert (and all other Windows executables) directly from Cygwin.

For commonly used commands that reside in a directory I don't otherwise want in my PATH, I just define aliases or shell functions in my .bashrc.

Yeah. I knew that. :) It turns out I spend 99% of my time in Cygwin now
and just wanted it for this platform. I guess I can always open a Dos
window. :(
