Don't forget any Cygwin-based services you might have running. That trips me up from time to time, even though I remember to close all the Cygwin shells and manually invoked processes.

I do this all the time. :-)

And it might happen to you as it happened to me. i just missed one open window, and i had to reboot :-(((
