The result of using g++ is

$ g++ hello.cc

$

in other words nothing is output to the terminal - Peter M Lee

That isn't any old nothing, that's specifically a "no error message" kind of nothing. Nothing was output to the terminal, but a file called 'a.exe' was output to the current directory.


Type "echo $?" to see the exit status of the gcc command:

/artimi/chips/earn/block/rom $ g++ hello.cc
/artimi/chips/earn/block/rom $ echo $?
0
/artimi/chips/earn/block/rom $ ./a.exe
Hello, world
/artimi/chips/earn/block/rom $
