Re: bash builtin "test" kills bash on Win 2003 Server R2 x64 (some hardware)

Hi -

It has been noted that the problem might derive from a conflict with
another application (BLODA -

But, I am using a clean install of:

Windows Server 2003 Standard R2 X64
Windows Resource Kit Tools
Cygwin

That's all. Further, using the same VM (an exact block level copy),
cygwin works on one set of hardware and not on another.

It truly does appear to be a hardware dependent problem with bash.

Perhaps. But it seems to me that the big variable factor here is the VM. But leaving that aside for the moment, perhaps you have a a corrupted '/bin/[.exe'. Yes, it's just a WAG that really shouldn't be an issue but given your unique environment, maybe it's worth checking. Otherwise, my guess is you're going to need to dig in and debug this some. I'd recommend trying a failing operation with strace and see if the results give you any insight. Be warned. This means you may need to look at Cygwin source to follow what's happening.
