bash will not run a command using a windows path to it anymore.
Sorry for not "keeping up" - I did go through the cygwin
announcements for 2008, but probably need to go back even further.
I will plan on doing this.

There hasn't been any effort to support Windows paths in Cygwin for a long time. That doesn't mean it wouldn't have worked sometime in the past. It's just that doing so is not a goal of this project. Use the POSIX form of the path and will work nicely for you - /cygdrive/d/winnt/system32/cmd.exe. If you need to use COMSPEC, run it through 'cygpath' to convert it to a POSIX path.
