I would expect $HOME to be considered if it denotes an absolute path,
even in Windows notation, and fortunately it still works :)
On the other hand, if HOME is something like set HOME=bla, a new
directory /usr/bin/bla is created and initialised as home directory.
Don't know whether that's desirable, but in fact it's not being ignored.
