Yeah! I undestatand that's you case. My colegues want marginalias in all
possible places including lists. Weird requirement, isn't it? :-)

Well there are also other ways. It is possible to get LaTeX from DocBook
using db2latex stylesheet. Doing marginalias in LaTeX is quite easy
utilizing \valign TeX primitive.
