The way that most people do that is to first use the standard DocBook stylesheets (either XSL or DSSSL) to convert to HTML, and then post-process that by running it through either lynx, links, or w3m with the -dump option to generate plain text. A lot of Linux distros also have front-end scripts to make it easier to do; for example, you can find Tim Waugh's "xmlto" script on Red Hat and some other distros. --Mike
