Hi Justus,
I think you are right.  The properties should go on an fo:inline inside the
fo:basic-link. I have found that XEP and Antenna House both accept color on
fo:basic-link and apply it to
the text without error.  But one shouldn't rely on non-standard behavior.

Yes, that's what I tried, but PassiveTeX does not pay attention to
it. And indeed, if I understand the XSL-FO spec correctly
(http://www.w3.org/TR/2001/REC-xsl-20011015/slice6.html#fo_basic-link),
the color attribute does not apply to the fo:basic-link formatting
object. Doesn't this mean that the link text should be enclosed, e.g.,
in a fo:inline that takes the appropriate text attributes?
