Hi Johann,
Putting the XML_CATALOG_FILES on a separate line in a Makefile does not set
an environment variable, it just sets a Make macro. In my (not too clear)
example, I put it on the same command line as the xsltproc command, so it
becomes a shell env variable for the command. In your example:
website.database.xml: autolayout.xml
XML_CATALOG_FILES=/usr/share/xml/docbook/custom/website/2.5.0/catalog.xml \
xsltproc --output $@ \
/usr/share/xml/docbook/custom/website/2.5.0/xsl/website-targets.xsl
$<
