Hello Tomás,
I'm not familiar with the sgmltools utility, but I would suggest that if you
want to encourage the use of DocBook that you switch from the SGML version
to the XML version.  There are several front ends for processing DocBook
XML, more features, and better support.  The SGML version of slides is quite
old now, and the XML version would probably give you more satisfactory
results.
