I made an Acrobat file of the 99-page "Emacs+PSGML" chapter of my book "SGML
CD" publicly available on the book's web page at
http://www.snee.com/bob/sgmlfree/. It doesn't assume any knowledge of Emacs.
(And, the book itself was written with DocBook!)
If you really want a live trainer, I'll bet someone at ISOGEN
(www.isogen.com) could put something together on Emacs+PSGML.
