"Align it to the left, and flow other content around its right hand
side"?

As I say, it's the difference between

    <p align="left"><img ...> Some text</p>

and

    <p><img align="left"> Some text</p>

Yes, this is a stylesheet issue, but you still need some way of
communicating to the stylesheet the preferred approach, on a per image
basis.
