Norm's Simplified DocBook is a great example of
an extensive customization of DocBook's DTD. If you
want to learn a bit more about the customization
(as opposed to just using the flatfile DTD), then
you might want to explore the LiveDTD version of
the customization that I created. If you go to:
http://www.sagehill.net/livedtd/docbooksimple/
you will see a hypertexted version of the Simplified DTD
with links between declarations and usages.
The "live" part means that unused parts of the
original DocBook DTD files that are
no longer active in Simplified DocBook are not
linked to or from, so they are "dead".
You'll see which parts of the Simplfied DTD are
still declared in the original dbpoolx.mod and
dbhierx.mod files, and which are now declared
in the simplified DTD files.
This view of the DTD is also a quick reference of which
elements are still in the DTD, and what their
content models are. I keep it bookmarked for that reason.
