Thanks for you quick help, which helped a lot - but just to explain:
For evaluation purposes I looked only at the website to find
out about the supported CPUs, and on
http://ecos.sourceware.org/hardware.html
only the H8/300 is mentioned, and not the H8S.
Maybe this page could need an update then.
