Well, I did not change anything related to this THAT I KNOW OF, but I have 
since generated a new "from scratch" .ecc and now printf works like I 
expected. I guess my configuration was wrong or corrupt.

BTW, the config tool seems to be quite unstable when saving .ecc files. It 
seems to be slightly more stable if one collapses all the controls in the 
left-hand pane before attempting to save the .ecc.

Guilty as charged. If this is a known problem and not just my own personal 
ill karma then I will leave things as they are, I think, rather than trying 
to wrestle with the whole toolchain issue again. I might downgrade to 
regular non-insight gdb so I don't have to remember -nw all the time.
