This sounds interesting to me (and probably to many others).
What time schedule is realistic for such a patch?

Sorry.
I have something else though: I've added an option to the
RedBoot "load" command to write directly to flash.
If there is any interest, I could clean up the changes I made
and submit it as a patch to eCos.
