But JPG is a crappy format for screenshots. I guess Jade doesn't support
GIFs due to the long-standing patent issue. Do you know if Jade supports
other more suitable bitmap formats? PNG would be ideal I guess. The
"convert" utility supports that and quite a few others certainly.

I guess the possibilities we have with pdfjadetex are limited to these Gin@extensions={.pdf,.png,.jpg,.mps,.tif}.

I tried with pdf, png and jpg. Convesion to pdf (via eps) is possible, but seems to give a crappy picture. Png works, but it's not so well supported on windows. Jpeg seems to work (sharp enough) for both outputs.
Png is certainly supported by MSIE and has been for a while now. In what circumstances are you finding it unsupported?

So you're saying it's no better than the alternative after all?

Not Yet, I'm still just experimenting, since the seem to have left out the stuff from pdfjadetex documentation. Nothing final.

My friend, who used to work a lot with TeX, says that the pictures get incorporated into the final pdf, when the dvi that jadetex produces gets converted. They are not manipulated by TeX engine in any way, just anchored.
Unless pdfjadetex _does_ manipulate them first before passing to TeX of course :-).
