Yes, but again you risk running into the same problem that Michael
Chastain's patch is intended to fix.  I think it is much less likely
that you'll run into the problem with a longer symbol.

Actually, I like Michael's original patch.  It seems unlikely to me
that the libc startup code would be using ``factorial'' as a variable
name.
