Thanks to Jim Wilson who took the time to check Benjamin's patch for us
(yes, including the GDB testsuite) we can now check this in.
I am not sure if SID folks did look at it, but this patch looks safe
enough to
be checked in without more ado.
I will be checking it in momentarily.
