Subject: [PATCH 0/5] Reference counting improvements in Python

I went through the Python code, looking for opportunities to reduce
the amount of manual reference counting.  This series is the result.

I found a couple of small latent bugs in the process.

Regression tested on x86-64 Fedora 28.
