This looks pretty simple. The patch on the PR just adds an 'rm' command to the distclean rule. I can just stick that 'rm' command in src-release and we won't have to bother the upstream intl/ folks.
I need to do a little analysis and testing first, and we might want to submit an upstream patch to intl/ anyways.
