After much messing about (recompiling kernels, changing kernels and
versions of gdb) it seems that there was something inherently wrong with
my FC 2 setup.
I reinstalled and it works ok now but strangly enough Box 2 is still
ever so slightly slower than Box 1 (about 2 seconds) for reaching
conditional breakpoints.
For everything else its faster.
