All checkpoints are lost when an assertion fails or a segmentation fault occurs. One should be able to

Create a program with an assertion or a segmentation fault (ie *0 = 1). Set a breakpoint before the failure and checkpoint there. Then continue until the failure. Try running "info checkpoints" and "restart".
